Tutorial on Installing Wordpress

Tutorial on WordPress Installation: http://www.optiniche.com/blog/freeview.php?v=wp-install

The tutorial assumes that you are on a PC, you are brand new to WordPress (i.e. this is basic info to advanced users), your web host is using cPanel, and you have an understanding of how to manage and configure your FTP program.

Here’s another tutorial on using FTP clients: http://www.ploghost.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=345

3 years for the price of 2 dot.PH domains

We’re glad to inform you that we have a new promo for all .PH domains you registered with us.

If you renew your .PH domains between now and June, 2006 for 2 more years, we will extend it for another year. That’s 3 years extension for the price of 2.

If you register a new .PH domain between now and June, 2006 for 2 straight years, we will extend it for another year. That’s 3 years registration for the price of 2 years.

That’s 33% savings all in all.

To avail of this promo, just login to your Client Center account and open a support ticket requesting for an advanced renewal billing for 2 years.

New domain registrations will automatically get the additional extension.

12% eVAT Adjustment

We would like to inform everyone that starting February 1, 2006, all additional VAT fees will be set to 12% from 10% as mandated by law.

Our prices will remain at the same low prices as they were over 3 years ago when we started plogHost. Still we are looking for ways to add value to our service along with more features and facilities.

Should you have further questions or comments, please feel free to contact us thru the Client Center.

What is an Add-On Domain?

Add-On Domain is basically a new domain name that points to a subdirectory within your existing hosting account where the website for the new domain will reside. Add-on domains must be registered domain names that you own, and that are configured to point to your web host’s servers.

An add-on domain functions just like any other domain. For example, if you already have a hosting account under www.mydomain.com, you can register and set up an add-on domain (e.g. newdomain.com), so that when your visitors check “www.newdomain.com” in their browser, they will be directed to the new site.

This feature is controlled by your hosting provider and the number of Add-On domains you can created is dependent on the limit of your hosting plan. For each new add-on domain, you will need to register another domain and point it to the same nameservers as your primary domain account.

Remember that all add-on domains share resources (i.e. webspace, bandwidth) with your primary domain account and all other domains within that hosting account account (whether they are parked domains or additional add-on domains).

What is a Parked Domain?

Parked Domains (or Domain Parking) are domains that point to the main domain account. This is a feature that allows multiple registered domains to point or redirect to a single website.

Hence, if you own domain.com, you can park domain.net and domain.org iso that if any of the 3 domains are looked up in your browser, the contents of domain.com are shown. Likewise, emails sent to the .net and the .org are also routed to your existing .com emails.

WordPress 2.0 now available!

WordPress has recently released version 2.0 of their blogging tool.

You may now visit their site and download your latest copy. We do not recommend that you upgrade your existing blogs right away as some of your plugins may not work with the new release.

For new installations though, this is recommended.

How to compute your expected bandwidth consumption?

When choosing the right package for your needs, you will have to compute for your monthly bandwidth requirements by checking what kind of files you are going to serve in your site and the estimated number of people going to access it.

For example, if you are serving a podcast with 5MB of mp3 twice a week, then that’s 5MB x 2/week x 4weeks/month for a total of 40MB per visitor downloads. Say you have 30 subscribers and they all download your podcasts for the month so your total consumption would be 1,200MB for the whole month.

Also take into consideration your pageviews and other image files you may also have on your site or blog.
